There was great drama in the final minutes between Nigeria and South Africa.
Victor Osimhen’s 2–0 goal was disallowed and South Africa were awarded a penalty instead.
Football with video review leads to some strange situations.
Among other things, in Wednesday evening’s semi-final in the African championships between Nigeria and South Africa.
Huge drama
Big star Victor Osimhen saved Nigeria’s penalty until 1–0 and then thought he had punctuated the game with a 2–0 goal in the closing minutes.
But the VAR referees checked the goal and concluded that South Africa should have been awarded a penalty before Osimhen netted. Thus, Teboho Mokoena was able to equalize from the penalty spot in the 90th minute and the semi-final went to extra time and penalties.
The shootout was won by Nigeria, who advanced to the final.
– The players deserve to be in the final. It was a nice victory against a good team, says Nigeria’s Portuguese coach JosĂ© Peseiro CAF Online after the drama.
Final on Sunday
Nigeria’s opposition in the final, which will be played on Sunday, will be Ivory Coast.
The home nation won 1-0 against Congo-Kinshasa later on Wednesday evening after a decisive goal from Sébastien Haller.
