Adidas apologized in his latest story upload @adidassg for revealing wayang kulit from Malaysia. Adidas apologized and acknowledged that the original wayang kulit came from Indonesia.
In his upload, he mentioned that wayang kulit is part of Malaysian culture. However, they apologized for not writing that the wayang kulit was originally from Indonesia.
Adidas gave an official statement regarding this matter. This statement was posted in the @adidassg instastory.
“Thank you for contacting us. While wayang kulit is an important part of Malaysia’s cultural heritage, we should highlight (that shadow puppets) are authentic from Indonesia in our posts.
We sincerely apologize for the unintentional offense that has occurred, and we are now changing our post. “
Apart from apologizing and acknowledging that the wayang kulit is native to Indonesia, the sports shoe brand and the artist who created the shoe design did not intend to claim artwork from Indonesia.
“To avoid confusion, neither the brand nor the artist claim the artwork from Indonesia.”

Adidas also admitted that they have improved the upload on its instagram page by adding Indonesia as the country of origin of wayang kulit cultural heritage.
“Originating from Indonesia, Wayang Kulit has inspired other parts of Southeast Asia,” wrote @adidassg in his latest upload.
As reported by the UNESCO website, the shadow puppet show has indeed been recognized as an intangible cultural heritage from the island of Java, Indonesia in 2003.
