Soprano Marie-Ève Munger Returns to her Roots for a Magical Evening of Maestro Mozart

Soprano Marie-Ève Munger returned to her native region for an evening to present Maestro Mozart at the Théâtre C in Chicoutimi. The lyric singer’s exclusive concert was the only one planned this year in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean.

The opera singer took the stage with seven musicians. Marie-Ève Munger explains that she wanted to devote herself to Mozart, a composer she particularly loves.

We are presenting a concert which is dedicated exclusively to Mozart… And Mozart at the opera, because Mozart began writing his first great operas when he was eleven years old, she said. By the age of 17, he had already written eight operas and these are relatively little-known operas. So, we are going to present a little of this repertoire, but also very well-known arias from his great operas like Don Giovannias The Marriage of Figaroasa Magic Flute.

Marie-Ève Munger breaks out of her usual routine with the works of Mozart. I am best known for making romantic music, even contemporary music, bel canto, she explained. But, everything that was Mozart and before, it was a little inaccessible to me just by the form of things because people like to put us in boxes.

The only visit to the region this year

Since this is the only visit of the original Saguenéenne in the region this year, she is delighted to be able to present the work of Mozart. I’m going back to the United States to sing a Donizetti opera, my first Donizetti opera, taking a role where we do the Elixir of Love. So I’m very, very looking forward to that. Then, I do concerts in Geneva, I return to the Lille Opera, I return to the Lausanne Opera. I have lots of projects, many in Europe, I now live in Paris.
