YOU MAKE THE NEWS. Sophia, 23, is one of the four winners of the “La Parole aux 18-28” prize. She stood out by writing a chapter in the history of a (false!) School textbook for the year 2060-2061, dealing with “the episode of ‘disruption of the world'”.
Organized every year by Economic meetings of Aix-en-Provence, the device “La Parole aux 18–28” encourages young people to reflect and make their voices heard on a given topical theme. Encourage young people to offer an elaborate reflection on an imposed subject
“This award confirmed my idea that my prospective studies train me to take a relevant look at public policies“. For Sophia, participating in an economy prize as a student is not a problem. On the contrary: “do not hesitate to take the plunge! We bring added value because we all offer a different and multidisciplinary approach“adds the winner.
“The Word at 18–28 is an opportunity, continues Sophia. We can propose a concrete idea that will be taken seriously by specialists in the field. “ And above all, those selected have the possibility of calling on leading figures, “We have privileged interviews with certain speakers, such as Margrethe Vestager, the European Commissioner for Competition. We can have real dialogues with them. “
To involve even more people in the next editions of the award, the selected 2020s, who all have very different educational backgrounds, have been entrusted with the same mission: “to involve young people not intended for long studies.” Sophia has her idea for moving forward: “We are going to contact associative structures, high schools so that young people from all walks of life participate”.

Do not hesitate to take part in the public debate
Apart from the price “La Parole aux 18–28”, “Everyone can participate at the 2020 Economic Meetings going into thetab ‘I launch the debate‘ on the site of Met or by asking questions during the conferences which will take place online and live from July 3 to 5, “explains Sophia. At the end of June, more than 200 questions were submitted, related to the ten scheduled debates.
No matter what the age, anyone can take part in public debate. “Just inquire and express your opinion “. What are the Aix-en-Provence Economic Meetings?
The Circle of Economists created the Aix-en-Provence Economic Meetings in 2001. They have become the essential meeting for reflection and debate in the economic world in France. Nearly 300 speakers are invited to discuss the actions to be taken to deal with the emergency and together define new economic models for the future.
Since 2006, as part of the Aix-en Provence Economic Meetings, the Circle of economists and France Culture organize the price “La Parole aux 18–28”. This device aims to give the new generation the opportunity to make their voices heard.
After a call for candidates, 120 young people from 18 to 28 years old from all backgrounds are selected. They write an essay which is examined by a jury, chaired by Etienne Klein, physicist, director of research at CEA and doctor of philosophy of science. The jury selects three winners (four exceptionally this year), each receiving the sum of € 1,000.
This year, the Economic Meetings are broadcast live from the Maison de la Radio and are renamed Aix-en-Seine on this occasion. The public can follow the debates from website Meetings or on their channel Youtube. See you on July 3, 4 and 5.
