Sony will close the PlayStation Store on PS3, PS VIta, and PSP

JAKARTA – Sony officially announced that the online game store PlayStation Store on the PlayStation 3 (PS3) and PlayStation Portable (PSP) consoles will close on July 2, 2021. Then follow on Vita devices on August 27.

The deactivation means users will no longer be able to purchase digital games or DLC for PS3 and Vita.

However, users can still download and play previously purchased games, videos and media content, as reported by The Verge, Tuesday (30/3/2021)

Consumers also can still buy cross-buy content after closing. This allows players to access the PS3 and PS Vita / PSP versions of the game that come with cross-buy support.

News of the initial closure emerged last week from TheGamer, and many fear it will stop people from downloading games to their devices.

The only thing that changes here is that users will no longer be able to purchase new games and digital content unless the game has cross-buy support.

The Sony PS3 was originally launched in November 2006 and has sold over 80 million units. While the price of the Vita console is not very good with a total of more than 10 million units sold.

But when it comes to PSP, the console is a hit with over 80 million sold over its 10 year life.
