Sony releases beta firmware for Playstation 5 with support for standard ssds

Sony has for the first time since the release of the Playstation 5 made a beta version of the firmware available to users outside the company, reports The Verge.

The beta version of the PS5 software has been made available to select customers in France, Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany and the United States. The big news is support for expanding the storage in the game console with standard m2-ssds.

Or ordinary and ordinary: Playstation 5 places high demands on the circuits. They must be pci-express gene 4 and have read speeds of at least 5,500 megabytes per second. It supports several popular ssds such as Samsung 980 Pro and Western Digital SN850.

Sony points out that the Playstation 5 chassis does not provide m2-ssds with any cooling, which they may need. You should therefore mount some form of heat sink on it.

The other news included in the beta version is support for 3D sound on TVs’ built-in speakers. The function uses the microphones in the Dualsense controller to measure the acoustics in the room.
