Sony has announced that PS5– the launch is their biggest console launch ever, and that demand continues to remain at unmatched levels.
If you’ve been looking for a PS5 and are still empty handed, there may be hope in a new statement from Sony. The company says that more PS5 machines will be on their way to stores before the end of the year, and that one should “keep in touch with their local dealer.”
Whether this applies worldwide, Sony says nothing about, but Elkjøp seemed optimistic when we asked about the availability before Christmas, as the electronics giant received two extra lots for launch on 19 November. Nevertheless, gaming manager Nils Martin Øyo thought that in the future it will be difficult to get the popular Sony machine until after the New Year.
The fact that the PS5 managed to sell more than the PS4 (and previous consoles) at launch is a bit of a feat for the new machine, even though it has only been on the market for a few days. It is particularly impressive since COVID-19 has ravaged through large parts of the production of both hardware and software, not to mention in the everyday lives of all customers.
We want to thank gamers everywhere for making the PS5 launch our biggest console launch ever. Demand for PS5 is unprecedented, so we wanted to confirm that more PS5 inventory will be coming to retailers before the end of the year – please stay in touch with your local retailers.November 25, 2020
The Sony success has led to all shipments from the company being sold out, something Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan sums up with the following statements in a new interview: “Absolutely everything is sold”.
Can the PS5 set other records?
It’s not been easy being Sony lately. The PS5 launch has encountered a number of problems, including large proportions of the machines becoming available bought by speculators (which sells the machines in second-hand markets at exorbitant prices) and PS5 packages from Amazon Abroad has become an enticing destination for thieves. There is no doubt that the new Sony hardware has really hit a nerve with consumers this year.
Will the PS5 become Sony’s best-selling console of all time? It is a long way off, and not very likely either. The PS2 remains Sony’s most popular console, with as many as 155 million units sold – much because this was a machine that included a very high quality DVD player in an age where such was not particularly cheap. PlayStation 4 is currently in second place, with around 133.5 million units sold, while PlayStation and PlayStation 3 sold around 102.49 million and 87.5 million units, respectively.
We keep an eye on the online stores and say if new stocks of PS5 machines appear, so stay tuned here at TechRadar, if a limited number of Sony consoles should appear, we will let you know immediately.
Now that it is Black Week, and soon Black Friday, it is extra important to follow, since new parties will disappear faster than normal.
