Sony PlayStation 5: Allegedly massive overheating problems

Why has Sony not yet a picture of the PlayStation 5 publishes and speaks so hesitantly about the next generation console? So the last event in which one the technical data introduced very hastily – shortly after Microsoft was well prepared all Xbox Series X specs presented. Now there are rumors that Sony’s reluctance has a good reason: The PS5 is still facing development problems.

Accordingly, Sony could not show a finished design of the PS5 – because the Japanese manufacturer is still working on it. Indeed, Sony’s reluctance is strange and does not coincide with what the company did about the announcement of the PS3 and PS4. If you compare the time frames, months before the release of the respective consoles, real gameplay videos could be seen and the optics of the consoles were also shown.

From the rumor mill, it is now said that Sony has been taken by Microsoft by surprise: the Redmond company had already changed the design of the end of 2019 Xbox Series X out and a little later called the graphics performance of 12 TFLOPS – which the PS5 cannot keep up with. Sony is now under pressure, but is not yet ready to reveal the design of the PS5. Current concepts would overheat – also due to the lightning-fast SSD, which caused higher waste heat than previously thought.

This also results in the currently lacking gameplay material: The developers could not final optimize because Sony is still too busy tinkering with the console. Now Sony must either move the PlayStation 5 and throw previous console designs overboard, or quickly redesign the hardware and choose a different case to ensure cooling – possibly not unlike the tower structure of the Xbox Series X.

Currently, however, these are only rumors that are said to come from the mouths of various developers, who of course want to remain anonymous. My opinion? Sony’s behavior is quite unusual and I also get the impression that Microsoft had been underestimated and rested too much on its laurels. But are there such massive problems? That is hard to say. So far, both Sony and Microsoft have confirmed that their next-generation consoles will be launched on the market at the end of 2020 as planned.
