Sony confirms coming variable refresh rate update for PlayStation 5 – Gaming – News

Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 5 will receive future support for variable refresh rate. This feature is supported through HDMI 2.1 and is added to the console through a system update. It is not clear when this will happen.

Support for VRR was initially mentioned in the PlayStation 5’s system specifications, but upon release of the console it became clear that the feature was not yet supported. Sony has this weekend, however the FAQ page for the PS5, confirming that this feature will be added to the console at a later date.

“The PS5 hardware supports VRR over HDMI 2.1. With a future update to the system software, PS5 owners will be able to use the VRR feature of compatible TVs when playing games that support VRR,” Sony writes. However, the console manufacturer will not notify you when this update is released.

Support for M.2 SSDs will also be added to the console at a later date. as was already known. Sony says on its FAQ page that it will disclose more details about SSD support ‘in the future’, including which M.2 SSDs are supported on the console. This is not yet clear at the moment.
