The blue speedy hedgehog is back in Sonic Superstars: SEGA is releasing a new game for PC and consoles this fall.
At the start of Summer Game Fest 2023, Sega announced Sonic Superstars another PC and console game based around the iconic hedgehog. While the publications in the recent past have focused on 3D graphics, the next game again relies on a more classic 2D presentation, which, however, is drilled out with the help of modern effects. These include Ultra HD optics and revised levels with a contemporary design.
The story of Sonic Superstars takes the hedgehog and his friends to the North Star Islands, where they meet the evil Dr. meet Eggman, whose sinister plans must be thwarted. A variety of the most popular characters from previous Sonic games are available to choose from, ranging from Tails to Knuckles to Amy Rose. In addition, a completely new character will be introduced, but nothing is known about it yet.
The fans can Sonic Superstars play either alone or in multiplayer: Up to four friends can jump into the action at the same time. The so-called Emerald powers are an interesting innovation: This allows the characters to perform special actions – such as swimming up waterfalls, creating clones of themselves or becoming particularly strong for a short time.
The publication of Sonic Superstars is planned for autumn 2023 on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. However, a specific date has not yet been set.
The question is also open as to whether Sonic fans can try out the latest adventure at Gamescom 2023 in Cologne: SEGA was one of the largest exhibitors in terms of area in 2022 – there have been no announcements for this year’s Gamescom (23 to 27 August). (al)
