Somers exchanges the minority forum for Join.Vlaanderen

At the beginning of March, Flemish Minister of Community Affairs Bart Somers (Open VLD) announced that the current recognition of the Minorities Forum would not be extended just like that, because the participation organization did not meet the new recognition conditions at the time.

Landry Mawungu, the director of the Minorities Forum, called the decision ‘incomprehensible’. The minister issued an open call to which three organizations subscribed.

Somers costs for Join.Vlaanderen, a network of various universities, experts and citizens. That is the organization that, together with Hassan Al Hilou, brings together young people with migration roots on various hackathons to think about how they can reach more young people with the corona guidelines.

‘Instead of maintaining existing structures, I want to work with new people and get things moving. Join.Vlaanderen is innovative, practical and action-oriented, ‘says Somers. In addition to policy advice, Join.Vlaanderen will also roll out concrete actions and projects that, according to the minister, can make living together in diversity a success.

A negotiation phase is now starting on the content of a multi-year plan and a cooperation agreement. Afterwards, the definitive accreditation of Join.Vlaanderen for the period 2021-2025 will be submitted to the Flemish government.
