The largest chain of movie theaters in the United States, AMC Theaters, will reopen on August 20 offering tickets at the “retro” price of 15 cents per movie, the company reported this Thursday 13-A.

AMC Entertainment, which owns the chain, said it plans to open the doors of a hundred cinemas, about a sixth of its locations throughout the country.

AMC theaters have reopened in several countries, but have remained closed in the United States since March. The chain advertised the reopening with the slogan Films of 2020 at the price of 1920.

After several unsuccessful attempts to reopen due to the increase in coronavirus infections in various parts of the country, the return to theaters is expected by the end of August. Regal Cinemas, the second chain, plans to reopen some theaters on August 21.

During the reopening promotion, AMC will present classic films from its catalog, such as Ghostbusters, Black Panther, Back to the Future and Grease. Those movies will continue later at $ 5 a ticket.

AMC confirmed that the delayed release of the Disney film New Mutants will be on August 28, followed by Christopher Nolan’s Tenet on September 3. Warner Bros. plans to launch Tenet in Canada and other countries a week earlier. Other releases scheduled for late August include the thriller Unhinged, starring Russell Crowe and Armando Ianucci’s Personal History of David Copperfield.

AMC said it expects to reopen two-thirds of its theaters in time for the premiere of “Tenet.” California, New York and other states still do not allow the reopening of theaters.

The chains have said that they will operate with reduced capacity to facilitate social distancing, greater sanitation and the obligation to wear masks.
