Sold out in the shops – now hockey powder and crocodiles are sold at Finn

Norwegian retail chains are running out of these two products, but there are emergency solutions.

Two weeks ago wrote Well about the somewhat special candy combination that has taken off on social media: Crocodiles with Hockey Powder on.

If you have not yet tried the latest in sweets, it is not certain that it is that easy to get. Many stores have good candy coverage, but are completely sold out for exactly these two products.

– From week 34 to week 35, we had a 128 percent increase in sales of Hockey Powder in total in Kiwi. When it comes to crocodiles, we unfortunately do not see our own numbers, since it is part of loose weight goodies, says communications consultant at Kiwi, Nora Mile Helgesen to MittJessheim, and adds that 86 of their stores are now sold out for Hockey Powder.

Distributors reassure

The online newspaper visited the Coop Prix in the VG house on Thursday morning. Here too, a few floors below where it all started, it was sold out for the two products.

According to a store employee, Hockey Powder was empty at the wholesaler. Henriette Dahl Kjørsvik is marketing manager at Conaxess Trade Norway. It is this company that distributes the brands Crocodiller from Lutti and Hockey Powder from Grahns to Norwegian wholesalers, who in turn deliver on to the stores. She reassures sweet-toothed Norwegians:

– Just ask in the store. We have items in stock, both Hockey powder and crocodiles in bags, so we can deliver! says Dahl Kjørsvik to Nettavisen.

She emphasizes that the company has nothing to do with the crocodiles in the small goods department, but those that come in bags. When it comes to small items, Nidar (Coop), Candyking (Rema 1000) and Unil (Norgesgruppen) are responsible for the distribution.

Elisabeth Ekheim, communications director at Orkla (which owns Nidar), promises that they will do their part to ensure that Nettavisen and others who visit a Coop store in the future do not encounter an empty crocodile container in the small goods counter:

– The goody combination of cute crocodiles topped with hockey powder seems to work well during the day. We notice a large increase in sales of crocodiles in the Nidar Smågodt shelf. We still have more in stock and are working to meet demand in the future as well, Ekheim writes in an e-mail to Nettavisen.

Conaxess also does its part to prevent shortages:

– We have got Grahns, the producer of the hockey powder, to drive up extra shifts, to meet the demand, Dahl Kjørsvik states.

– Very good!

– Have you tried the combination yourself?

– Yes I have! We did that pretty quickly after the news, in the office, she says.

– What was the verdict?

– I think it was great! I do not eat hockey powder as usual, I must honestly admit, but I liked the taste! And crocodiles are really good, says the marketing manager, and adds that the bag crocodiles they sell are always fresh – which makes them more oily on the surface and better suited for collecting hockey powder, according to the marketing manager.

Even though several stores are now empty of sweets, there is always a solution. On Finn’s pages, the combination is sold for NOK 500:

– The ad was mostly posted for fun when I noticed that the nearest shops were completely empty of crocodiles, writes the man behind the ad to Nettavisen. He wants to remain anonymous.

– I read about the trend just before and thought this was a bit comical, he adds.

He does not have high hopes for the ad:

– I do not expect that anyone will bother to pay so much (500 kroner) for something that cost so little in the store, around 150 kroner, the man writes via the Finn app, and adds that he has not yet received any inquiries on the 600 grams of crocodiles and five boxes of hockey powder waiting for a new owner.

The author

Good reports that it is Anette Løkstad who is the woman behind the mix, which she shared on a Facebook group already in 2014, but which has only taken off now. Whether it is the black or orange crocodiles that are best in the mix, she is in no doubt:

– When it comes to the mixture with Hockey Powder, I think the orange is best suited, because I feel they are a little softer than the black ones, Løkstad says to Godt.

Usually, however, the blacks are the favorite, reports Løkstad, and reveals that she only recently found out that they tasted black currants.

Maybe something she discovered through Nettavisen’s crocodile revelation article from April?
