Sodexo lays off 380 people – Le Soir

The procedure for informing and consulting the social partners within the framework of the Renault law has been launched.

Lhe management of Sodexo Belgium announced on Friday its intention to reduce its workforce by nearly 380 people due to the reduction in the needs of its customers (companies, administrations, schools and universities, hospitals, nursing homes). The Renault procedure has been initiated, said management after an extraordinary works council.

“From the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in March, Sodexo customers had to adapt their demands for collective catering in the face of health security measures and new work organizations. As a direct consequence of this situation, Sodexo Belgium had to adapt its own organization and nearly 1,400 of the 4,000 employees of the company entered the temporary unemployment scheme for force majeure ”, explains the company in a press release.

The impact on Sodexo Belgium’s results for the period from March to August corresponds to “a significant decrease in turnover”.

“Today, it is clear that the return to a level of activity comparable to the pre-crisis situation is no longer relevant and the decision to adapt the size of the teams to the reduction in the volume of activities is necessary in order to guarantee the profitability of the company in the short, medium and long term. “

The management of the Belgian subsidiary of Sodexo specifies that it wants to “conduct constructive social dialogue with its social partners”.
