Socialization through theater for the children of Chartres

“It’s better than a text by Shakespeare” enthuses the mother of a child at the exit of the pocket theatre. You shouldn’t expect a classic theater performance. Children attending school in certain Chartres districts offered to present their introduction to theater in the form of improvisation games.

Three exhibitions to see this summer, in Chartres

Eight students from three different schools (Maurice-Carême, Henri-Farman and Henri Matisse) were able to take part in the workshops every Monday evening. Started in December after almost a two-year break due to the Covid, the children were identified and selected by their teachers and school principals. The students, mostly in CM1 and CM2, were supervised by their facilitator, Cécile Adam.

Self-confidence and respect for others

“The purpose of this action is to build group dynamics with socialization work and to allow everyone to gain self-confidence,” explains Akram Drissi, coordinator of the educational success system. “These aspects make it possible to work on cohesion, socialization, respect for others, differences as well as mutual aid and sharing” adds the coordinator.

“The idea is also to enable them to discover the cultural milieu in a different way,” explains Roland Le Traon, director of social action within the CCAS (communal center for social action). In the presence of around twenty people in the audience, including Élisabeth Fromont, deputy mayor of Chartres and vice-president of the CCAS, the students improvised from words and neologisms.

Live paintings were staged on different themes bringing smiles and laughter from parents, but also from students on stage. A team work where their imagination and their brains have been put to use.
