More of 10,000 people, including retirees, pensioners and affiliates to the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS), 65 years and older, have been vaccinated in Pichincha against the coronavirus, since last May 3, when the process began and nationwide about 20,000.

This was indicated by the president of the IESS Board of Directors, Carlos Luis Tamayo, as reported by this entity.

On Pichincha there are two vaccination points: in the north, in the United Nations, and in the south, in La Magdalena, in the so-called Elderly Care Centers (CAAM), where there have been crowds, complaints, waits for hours, in the middle of the inclement weather weather.

Maylig Encalada, National Deputy Director of Surveillance and Information Management of the General Health Insurance, attributed the saturation of users in the past days to the presence of people who were not scheduled, others who arrived several hours in advance or who did not play on their scheduled date.

Encalada added that -this Monday- there was a regularized flow from the completion of the time, date and place of vaccination.

Inoculation process and points

Encalada explained that when the member arrives, they go to some tents where they explain the type of vaccine, inclusion criteria, and control of vital signs. After a medical evaluation, the member enters a vaccination point and is registered with the Ministry of Public Health (MSP).

After receiving the dose, a room is entered where vital signs are checked and monitored for thirty minutes. Finally, the process concludes.

In the north there are 10 vaccination brigades and in the south, 5 brigades.

Until May 24, the goal of the IESS is to vaccinate more than 133,000 people nationwide from 08:00 to 17:00 from Monday to Sunday.

The zonal coordination of the MSP reported that from this Monday older adults with scheduling could receive the dose at the Bicentennial Convention Center, Calderón Teaching Hospital, the Elderly Hospital, in the north; Luz Elena Arismendi Hospital, in the south; Coliseum of the Catholic University, in the north center; coliseum of the Central University of Ecuador, in the north center and headquarters of the University of the Americas, in the north.
