Soccer – Freiburg im Breisgau – Great mood with coach: The reasons for Freiburg’s soaring – sport

Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – Christian Streich’s mood could hardly be better at the moment. The coach of SC Freiburg chatted and laughed on Thursday, his team is currently giving him every reason to do so. For the away game at Hertha BSC this Saturday (3.30 p.m. / Sky), the Baden Bundesliga club will take with them two statistics that are extraordinary for their standards: For the first time in its Bundesliga history, the SC is still undefeated after six match days. In addition, the only four conceded hits after six games represent a club record. That is why Streich says: “I am satisfied. We are really documenting a stability at the moment.”

However, the coach leaves open where this stability can lead in the course of the season. The fact is: besides the Breisgauer, only the big FC Bayern Munich has so far been without a defeat. It is also a fact: One reason for the historic soaring is the extremely strong squad for Freiburg standards. With goalkeeper Florian Müller and midfielder Baptiste Santamaria, only two regulars left the SC in the summer, both of which were replaced by returnees Mark Flekken and newcomer Maximilian Eggestein at least equally. Above all defensively, Streich’s team has so far been at a high Bundesliga level.

Nevertheless, the 56-year-old does not want to get into raptures. “We have few injuries, our doctors and physiotherapists do an exceptional job. We are lucky, we have good game runs,” he says, giving further reasons for the season so far. But Streich also admits with a look at his squad: “It doesn’t look too bad, we don’t have a bad perspective.” And now it goes to the ailing Hertha, who recently embarrassed themselves with 0: 6 at RB Leipzig. If the sports club wins in Berlin, it is even possible to jump to a Champions League place. Even a draw could be enough.

However, the coach expects an unpleasant opponent who wants to show a reaction after the defeat in Leipzig. “One thing is clear: Berlin will do all it can to prevent us playing football on Saturday. We can adjust to that, anything else would be naive,” he says. “We just have to know: We have a really tough Bundesliga game ahead of us.” Substitute captain Jonathan Schmid will not be able to participate because he is still in training after his corona infection and is still not operational. For him, Lukas Kübler should be in the starting line-up again.
