Contract until summer 2021: Saalfelden claws ’17/18 West League bombers
In the 2017/18 season, Volkan Akyildiz went hunting for goals for the SCR Altach amateurs, finished the season with no less than 34 goals and was the top scorer in what was then Regionalliga West. After that, the Turkish attacker played a game in the Austrian Bundesliga for Altach, only to breathe in the second division air 16 times in his further career for Austria Klagenfurt and Wiener Neustadt. After his engagement in Turkey with Nazilli (4th league), Corum (3rd league) and Orduspor (4th league) Akyildiz is now returning to Austria for FC Pinzgau. The regional league team and his new signing agreed on a contract until summer 2021 – with an option for a further year.
FCPS is working on the autumnal weaknesses
Thus, the Pinzgauer’s search for reinforcement for their offensive game has come to a successful end. Trainer Christian Ziege considers himself lucky: “We really wanted to strengthen ourselves on the offensive during the winter break – we have now succeeded. I am convinced that Volkan can and will help us with his qualities. He has a good move towards goal and has a strong finish – we often missed that in the autumn. It has often been shown that a change of scenery can make a big difference for a player and release a lot of positive energy. We will give Volkan the best possible support and try to integrate him as quickly as possible. “
Akyildiz: “I’m glad I can start over”
In lockstep, Akyildiz has the opportunity to prove his class again in Austria. “The last few months have not been easy for me. I am very happy that I have landed here at FC Pinzgau Saalfelden and that I can start over, so to speak. The discussions were very appreciative and I am confident that I will fit in well here. I will try that I can help the team with goals – that is my goal. The next few weeks will still be characterized by a certain degree of uncertainty due to the corona, but I’m already looking forward to it when it starts and I can get to know my new teammates personally “, said Akyildiz.
