So far, no chaos on warning strike day according to RLP news ticker: ATM blown up and knife attack sparks discussion.

What happened in Rhineland-Palatinate during the night? What does tomorrow bring? With our RLP news ticker you are up to date!

Restrictions on long-distance rail traffic until tomorrow

There could still be train cancellations and delays in rail traffic tomorrow. That applies at least to long-distance traffic, said a spokesman for Deutsche Bahn in Berlin. “That’s simply because many of the workers’ shifts overlap, starting today on the day of the strike and extending into the non-strike tomorrow,” he explained. For local transport, however, he is optimistic that S-Bahn, buses and regional trains will be running as scheduled again tomorrow.

Strikes at Moselle locks

Several Moselle locks are also not in operation today because of the warning strike. According to the current status, the Trier, Koblenz and Zeltingen locks would be on strike, said Tobias Schmidt, head of the shipping department at the Trier Shipping Office of the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration. A continuous journey of the ships on the German Moselle is therefore currently not possible. It could be that there will be temporary strikes at other Moselle locks during the course of the day. According to the water police station in Trier, the strikes have not yet led to traffic jams on the Moselle. As a rule, the skippers are well informed and look for designated berths in good time, said a spokesman on Monday.

From 11 a.m. rally in Mainz

In Mainz, a rally by ver.di and the railway and transport union EVG will take place on the station forecourt from 11 a.m. According to a spokesman, around 300 participants are expected there. The two unions had also called for a large warning strike in the Rheinhessen/Nahe region today. As a result, there are no buses or trains in many cities and towns – for example in Mainz, Wiesbaden and Bad Kreuznach. The buses are running in Worms, but the trains are also on strike here. Apparently, the people have prepared well for the strike. The train stations in Mainz, Mainz-Kastel, Worms and Bad Kreuznach were deserted in the morning. According to the police, there were no major traffic disruptions in Mainz, Worms or Bad Kreuznach. It was a normal Monday morning – without any major abnormalities.

Third round of negotiations started in Potsdam

In Potsdam, the third round of collective bargaining in the federal and local public sector has now started. The unions ver.di and the German Association of Civil Servants want, among other things, 10.5 percent more wages, but at least 500 euros more per month. The federal and local governments have offered five percent more.

No traffic chaos in the morning

Contrary to all expectations, the feared traffic chaos due to the major strike on the streets in the morning did not materialize. According to the SWR traffic center, commuter traffic in Rhineland-Palatinate was even quieter than usual. Many apparently stayed in the home office or moved their trips to other times. This is also confirmed by our reporters who were out and about in many cities in the morning. Many of you were probably well prepared for the strike.

Today we accompany you longer in the ticker!

It’s almost 10 a.m. – but unlike usual, our ticker isn’t over yet! Since today is a large-scale strike day, we will accompany you a little further. You will now get all the information that is important in terms of strike 🙂

Your rights as a rail customer in the event of problems

Today we briefly discussed what rights you have during such a strike or warning strike. Above all, it is always important to know what rights you have as a rail customer. You can read about it here:

Zemmer votes for wind power plants

This topic has caused a lot of wind in the community of Zemmer (district of Trier-Saarburg)… A wind power company wants to build three wind turbines in Meulenwald and lease land from the community for them. This was very controversial in the village and caused many discussions and protests. Last night, citizens were able to vote on the project. The result: a large majority voted in favor of the wind turbines.

Seed library now also in Speyer

Not only books or CDs, now there are also plant seeds in the city library in Speyer. The idea: In the spring, all hobby gardeners can take plant seeds with them, sow them at home, water them and care for them. And in autumn, when they harvest, they can take seeds, dry them, pack them up and take them back to the city library. In this way, the diversity of plants in Speyer is to be preserved and strengthened. Such projects are now becoming more and more common in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Sleeping trains in Landau

They’re lucky too, aren’t they? Among other things, the trains are standing still in the station in Landau in der Pfalz. You could tell they even take a nap…

Update strike for your Trier region

The cross-border trains operated by the Luxembourg railway CFL are also likely to be affected by the strike. No trains are expected to run on the local route from Saarbrücken via Türkismühle to Mainz either. There should be no failures in bus transport in the region. Stadtwerke Trier assumes that the buses will run according to plan. According to the ver.di union, there will also be no warning strike at Hahn Airport.

SWR RP, Trier, reported on this on March 27, 2023, 8:30 a.m

Understanding of the strike in Kaiserslautern

Such a strike is always annoying. The trains are standing still, and in many places the buses are not running either. Many had to find another way to work this morning. Nevertheless: In Kaiserslautern, for example, people show understanding for the large-scale warning strike today:

No obstructions at motorway tunnels

The trade union ver.di has also called on the employees of the Autobahn GmbH des Bundes to go on strike and, as a consequence, stated that tunnels would have to be closed for safety reasons. But that does not apply to Rhineland-Palatinate.

Update strike: Ver.di boss from Rhineland-Palatinate asks for understanding

In an interview with SWR1, the boss of ver.di Rhineland-Palatinate, Michael Blug, asks the citizens for their understanding for the warning strikes: “We have gone on massive strikes because the mood among the employees goes back and forth between anger and disappointment”, he says. One very much hopes that there will be an acceptable result in the negotiations in the next few days. The core demand for a minimum amount of 500 euros per month is particularly important. If there is no agreement on this, there will be no collective bargaining agreement, according to Blug.
