So far 16 confirmed Covid-19 deaths in Austria

Sunday afternoon [Stand 15:00 Uhr] the Ministry of Health officially reported 3,244 patients. 16 deaths have now been officially confirmed.

The number of people infected with the coronavirus exceeded the 3000 mark for the first time in Austria. On Sunday morning (as of 8:00 a.m.), the Ministry of Health officially reported 3,026 patients. In a 24-hour comparison with Saturday (2664 people), this is an increase of 13.6 percent. So far, 16 deaths have been reported, which have also been officially confirmed. Other cases have been reported by other agencies.

Two 81-year-olds died in Vienna, according to the spokeswoman for the city’s medical crisis team, Corina Had. The man and woman were treated for pre-existing conditions and died in the hospital. Lower Austria also reports two other deaths. The total number in the state thus rises to six. An 82-year-old died in the Melk State Hospital. The spokesman for the holding Bernhard Jany said that the man had suffered from a massive underlying illness. According to his information, a seriously ill 68-year-old died in Mödling.

Among them there is the first death in Carinthia in connection with the corona virus. As Governor Peter Kaiser (SPÖ) said, a 65-year-old patient died on Saturday in the Klagenfurt Clinic. He had severe previous illnesses and was infected with the corona virus. Meanwhile, several cases were reported in Völkermarkt – a funeral was the reason.

Funeral and funeral feast as a corona distributor

Specifically, there are 24 Covid-19 cases in the Völkermarkt district – in the city of Klagenfurt, which has more than twice as many inhabitants as the Völkermarkt district, there are 20 cases. According to Kaiser, this is due to a funeral that took place in Völkermarkt on March 6: “It was a funeral with a funeral feast for 86 people. It was just before such meetings were prohibited.” Contact tracing, the investigation of who was in contact with the sick, showed that the majority of the corona cases in the district were due to this funeral. Since the maximum incubation period of 14 days has already been exceeded, it is no longer expected that many funeral illnesses will become known.

Like Kaiser, health advisor Beate Prettner (SPÖ) appealed on Sunday to adhere to the exit restrictions. This also applies to people who have no symptoms – because, according to Prettner, a very large proportion of those infected with the corona hardly notice any symptoms: “Please act as if you were infected yourself,” was her advice. In addition, Prettner announced that it had now agreed to use the laboratory in the Institute for Food Control and Veterinary Medicine to evaluate coronavirus tests.

Kaiser also warned once again of parties that would currently take place despite the initial restrictions: “There are indications that there are such parties in Carinthia. We will do everything we can with the executive to end such damage-causing, arbitrary behavior finds. ” The development in the coming week is crucial, Kaiser emphasized. 105 confirmed coronavirus cases were reported in Carinthia at noon on Sunday, ten patients are in the hospital, five in the intensive care unit.

Most cases are still in Tyrol

Most of the Covid-19 cases still exist in Tyrol with 626 registered patients, followed by Upper Austria with 606. 422 positive tests from Lower Austria and 369 from Vienna were reported from the other federal states. Styria (393), Vorarlberg (249), Salzburg (209), Carinthia (98) and Burgenland (54) follow. With 21,368 tests, almost 3,000 additional tests were carried out within one day.

Nine deaths related to SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed, according to the ministry. Four in Styria, three in Vienna and two in Upper Austria. A 27-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man died in the Linz-Land district. The state of Upper Austria reported that the infection with the virus was only discovered after his death. The number of victims sometimes varies according to the federal state because evaluations are carried out at different times. As in the previous day, the number of recovered patients was nine.

A total of 307,280 confirmed cases have been announced worldwide, of which 81,348 were reported by China. 92,375 people have recovered from Covid-19 globally, according to publicly available figures.
