After heavy snowfall during the night, Berlin and Brandenburg woke up on Saturday under a thick blanket of snow. Many Berliners were drawn to the parks and toboggan runs in the city in the morning. For example at the Insulaner in Schöneberg, parents and children waited in line to climb the hill.
Most people tried to keep the corona distance rules. But there were always crowds and hustle and bustle. Masks were only seen sporadically on the islanders. On the Brennerberg in Pankow, too, families romped close together in the morning.
In the Berlin area, people sometimes walk on ten centimeters of snow, in Potsdam it can even be eleven centimeters, as a spokesman for the German Weather Service (DWD) said on Saturday morning. In the morning a cross-country skier was out and about in the Tiergarten, and the Brandenburg Gate and the Victory Column also looked like winter magic in the snow.
It is widely slick, so drivers should be careful. Snow and slippery roads have led to several road accidents with injuries on the roads in Brandenburg. By Saturday morning, the police had counted 21 weather-related accidents with a total of four slightly injured. The situation is still relatively quiet because there are not too many cars on the streets, said a spokesman for the situation center.
The snow is expected to move south on Saturday during the day. “But you have to expect a few flakes,” said the spokesman for the DWD. The daytime temperatures do not exceed two degrees, there is frost in many places. Temperatures drop drastically at night: Then it can cool down to minus eight, maybe even down to minus ten degrees.

Sunday is still partly foggy and cloudy in the morning, but the sun should show more and more during the day. It stays dry at temperatures around freezing. Even on Monday night it can cool down to minus ten degrees. Somewhat milder temperatures can only be expected again at the beginning of the new week. (with dpa)
