Three inches of snow! Many fell on the Feldberg on Saturday night. The mini start of winter on the highest peak in Baden-Württemberg, however, won’t last long.
A small start to winter blanketed Germany’s highest mountain outside the Alps, the 1,493-meter-high Feldberg near Freiburg, with a light layer of snow on Saturday. “All three centimeters came together,” said an employee of the German meteorological service, looking at the data from 7 am. “It will surely be a short one.” As temperatures are expected to be slightly above freezing during the day, the snow will soon melt. But the snowflakes may fall from time to time.
On Sunday night, motorists in the region, in particular, should expect wet frosts at altitudes of 1000 meters or more. In the next few days, however, it should be milder again, so that according to forecasts snow and ice should no longer be a problem for the moment.
