Snapchat Body Tracking AR Technology Helps Organ Donation Education «Mobile AR news :: Next reality

Sure, Snapchat AR glasses can be fun, but they can also help communicate complex issues.

While our Facebook news feeds were full of references to Day 311, March 11 is also World Kidney Day, but the UK’s National Health Service for Blood and Transplantation (NHSBT) took the opportunity to educate its components on organ donation.

Using the new body tracking technology recently released in Lens Studio 3.4, NHSBT published an AR experience that overlaid a rough map of the internal organs of the body in individuals within sight of the camera to help educate the public on this topic. it is often overlooked.

“Working with Snapchat to use this new body scanning technology is a really exciting opportunity for us,” said Holly Mason, deputy director of organ donation marketing for NHS Blood and Transplant, in a statement. “We are constantly looking for new ways to raise awareness and get people talking about organ donation.”

Along the left side of the camera view, users can tap on the organ icons for more information. The lens uses Snapchat’s Shoppable AR e-commerce tool and also includes a link to the NHSBT organ donation website, where users can register as organ donors.

The on-screen instructions also ask users to add their own story to their recordings to convince friends and family to consider becoming an organ donor. A reduced version of the experiment, which maintains the overlap of the organ but loses the information instructions, also works in the forward-facing camera.

The experience is available through Snapchat for iOS and Android. Please scan Snapcode below to try it yourself.

“By educating younger generations about the importance of organ donation, we know that they can lead the way into the future. Our research shows us that young people have the ability to become true change companies, challenging and inspiring change within their family at large, ”says Masón. . “We hope the lens encourages and motivates people to talk to their loved ones about organ donation and together we can save more lives.”

Snapchat AR’s propensity for fun and profit is well documented. But it is also gaining ground as a means of communication on political and social issues. For example, the United Nations Environment Program used Snapchat to illustrate sea level rise for Earth Day. Snapchat has also used its Landmarker technology as part of the Pride Month celebration. With this latest interaction, it becomes increasingly clear that the Snaps AR solution is suitable to offer not only a fun but also meaningful pedagogical approach.
