Smoljar opened the F3 season with a victory. Celebrating Charouz, Staněk failed – F1sport.cz

Thanks to the reversed order of the best twelve from Friday’s qualification, Smoljar was in second place in the first row on the grid of the first race on Saturday. He had only Jonny Edgar in front of him.

Smoljar managed with the Carlin driver in the run-up to the fourth lap, when he successfully attacked him in the first corner. A round later, the Brit tried to regain the lead, but Smoljar did not give up first place.

Gradually, he began to increase his lead. At the end of the race, Rus complained about the worse condition of his tires and the second Novalak began to approach him. However, Smoljara was rescued by a safety car, which rode three laps before the end due to an accident by Oliver Rasmussen in the last turn, and led the starting field to the finish of the race.

Novalak finished in second place. He benefited mainly from the start, when he got from sixth to fourth place. He then reached the podium in the 10th round, when Collet attacked the second Edgar, but in the third turn the Brazilian was wide and fell behind Novalak to fourth place.

It was Edgar starting from pole position who lost the most in the race. By the end of the race, Novalak, Collet and Logan Sargeant were ahead of him and Edgar was only fifth.

Collet third in the finish line reached the podium for the first time at its premiere in F3.

The best result in FIA Formula 3 was achieved in the first race of this year by the Czech team Charouz Racing System, which finished fourth thanks to Sargeant.

Olli Caldwell and Frederik Vesti finished behind Edgar, and the eighth winner of Friday’s qualification, Dennis Hauger, who started in the race from twelfth place, was eighth. Victor Martins, Matteo Nannini, David Schumacher and another Charouz pilot, Enzo Fittipaldi, closed the twelve, and will start the Saturday afternoon race from pole position.

The Czech racer Roman Staněk fell to the sixteenth place at the start, where he also finished the race. His teammates Jak Crawford and Ajumu Iwasa finished in 13th and 14th place. Juan Manuel Correa finished the 15th race, returning to the Formula One for the first time since 2019, when he had a serious accident in the Formula 2 race at Spa-Francorchamps, killing Anthoine Hubert.
