In the mountains above Blatten in the Lötschental, a small plane crashed at noon on Saturday. Four people died.

At around 12.25 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, a third person reported to the cantonal police headquarters that a small plane had crashed in the Gletscherspitz region. A few minutes later, the same person reported heavy smoke. Radio Rottu spread pictures of it on Twitter.

The Lötschental fire brigade, as well as the rescue workers, were flown to the site with an Air Zermatt helicopter. This could only determine the death of the aircraft occupants. The victims are two Swiss aged 66 and 50 and two Austrians aged 50 and 46.
According to the cantonal police of the Valais, the small aircraft took off from Reichenbach airfield in the canton of Bern in the morning. This should land there again during the day.
The cantonal police and the Swiss security investigation agency (Sust) also went to the scene of the accident. An investigation was initiated to clarify the cause of the accident.
The scene of the accident is in the area of the glacier tip. This 3000 meter high peak is located above Blatten in the Lötschental.
