Small business owners in Puerto Rico can now request assistance for the coronavirus

Washington – Small business owners in Puerto Rico can now claim loans from the United States Small Business Administration (SBA), because of the crisis generated by the pandemic of coronavirus.

SBA stated that there is a disaster on the island due to the virus, which allows the island’s merchants to apply for the loans, said, separately, the president of the House Small Business Committee, Nydia Velázquez, and the commissioner Jenniffer González.

The federal government will make up to $ 50 billion in guaranteed loans available to small entrepreneurs as part of efforts to mitigate the damage caused by the coronavirus and stimulate the economy.

Loans can be applied for at this internet address: disasterloan.sba.gov/ela/Declarations.

Yesterday, the Administration of Federal Affairs of Puerto Rico (PRFAA) in Washington confirmed to El Nuevo Día that the Executive signed the request, which – as a requirement of the SBA – was accompanied by information from five local businesses that, according to the government , are already suffering economic losses due to the crisis created by COVID-19.

Germán Hernández Garcés, who leads the SBA Public Affairs team on the island, indicated that – with very rare exceptions – practically all local businesses can apply for aid. “The idea is that they have enough opportunity to recover from what they are going through,” he said.
