San Luis potosí Health officials Issue Urgent Reminder on Respiratory Illness Prevention
Published: December 8, 2023
San Luis Potosí’s State Committee for Health Safety is actively reminding residents to bolster protective measures against respiratory illnesses, with a particular focus on safeguarding children under the age of five. The call to action emphasizes the importance of completing vaccination schedules, avoiding abrupt temperature changes, consistent handwashing, adn prompt medical attention at the first sign of respiratory symptoms.
Recent data, covering the week of November 28th to December 4th, indicates no current hospitalizations related to COVID-19. However, health authorities are tracking other circulating viruses. Three new confirmed cases of influenza were reported, bringing the seasonal total to eight.Notably,no cases of Respiratory Syncytial virus (RSV) were recorded during the same period.
A single new COVID-19 infection was identified within the reporting period – a two-year-old girl residing in the capital of Potosí. The child’s vaccination schedule was incomplete, but she has no known underlying health conditions. This case elevates the state’s cumulative COVID-19 infection total to 253,952 since the pandemic’s onset.
Despite the relatively low number of new infections, COVID-19 continues to pose a threat in San Luis Potosí. Tragically, the death of a 39-year-old woman from the metropolitan area was reported this week. She had no pre-existing risk factors and was not vaccinated against COVID-19, bringing the state’s total COVID-19 related fatalities to 7,744.
The State Committee for Health Safety reiterated the need for continued vigilance. While current case numbers are low, respiratory diseases remain active within the community, and incomplete vaccination remains a significant risk factor for severe illness. Protecting vulnerable populations, especially young children, is paramount.
