Slipknot‘s ‘Duality‘ surpasses 1 Billion Streams on Spotify
Los Angeles,CA – Slipknot’s 2004 single,”Duality,” has officially reached one billion streams on Spotify, marking a notable milestone for the Iowa-based metal band. The achievement highlights the enduring popularity of the track, which remains one of Slipknot’s most recognizable and celebrated songs.
Released in May 2004 as the lead single from their album Vol. 3 (The subliminal verses), “Duality” showcases the band’s signature blend of nu metal riffs and energetic grooves. All nine members of Slipknot contributed to the song’s writing process. Notably, the track is relatively “clean” compared to much of their discography, containing no profanity – a factor that aided its radio play.
The song explores the duality of human personality, examining the conflict between good and evil and the acceptance of both sides to achieve wholeness. Its accompanying music video, directed by Tony Petrossian, further cemented its iconic status.Filmed in a house slated for demolition, the video depicts the band performing amidst a chaotic crowd of fans, known as ”maggots,” as the structure is progressively destroyed. Roadrunner Records reportedly paid approximately $50,000 in damages to the homeowners, but the video has as been lauded as one of the greatest music videos of the early 2000s.
As of today, other Slipknot tracks are approaching similar milestones. “Psychosocial” currently has 764,888,499 streams, and “Before I Forget” has reached 667,003,299 streams. This streaming success comes as Slipknot was recently reported to be nearing a deal to sell its music catalog to HarbourView Equity Partners for around $120 million. The deal encompasses publishing rights, recording masters royalties, and the band’s archival catalogue, excluding future releases.
