French Agency Takes Legal Action Against Websites Selling Counterfeit Slimming Patches
Paris, France – November 19, 2024 – France’s National agency for the Safety of Medicines adn Health products (ANSM) has referred seven websites selling potentially dangerous slimming patches too the public prosecutor, initiating “health police measures” to halt the distribution of the counterfeit products. The action, announced today, signals a crackdown on the online trade of fake medications and aims to protect consumers from health risks associated with unregulated weight-loss aids.
These patches were marketed as containing semaglutide, a hormone-also known as GLP-1-naturally produced in the body to promote feelings of fullness. However, ANSM analyses revealed the products contained no semaglutide or any other weight-loss ingredients. The agency warns that the patches may include undeclared, and potentially harmful, active substances. The legal action seeks to suspend the marketing, distribution, possession for sale, import, export, and advertising of these fraudulent items.
The ANSM initiated testing on the slimming patches following concerns about their composition and safety. According to the agency, the “health police measures” empower the justice system to take definitive steps against those involved in the sale of these fake medicines.
