Willemstad – The slave registers of Curaçao will come online in August. These registers contain 21,500 names of slave owners and people who lived in slavery on the island of Curaçao between 1839 and 1863.

Previously, this information could only be found physically in the National Archives Curaçao. The registers contain not only names, but also life events such as births, deaths, sales and who was given as a wedding gift.

On August 17, the day on which the slavery history in Curaçao is commemorated, the slave registers of Curaçao come online.
