Slaughter Norway’s favorite in recent safety test: – It’s a shame to see

Renault Zoe quickly became a popular electric car in Norway when it was launched in 2013. A total of 14,748 versions of the compact electric car were sold in Norway, and last year the model ended up in 18th place on the list of best-selling car models, according to figures from the Information Council for road traffic (OFV).

In a recent safety test from Euro NCAP, which is a road safety collaboration between a number of European states, car manufacturers and consumer organizations, a very disappointing message came to all the owners of the latest version of Zoe.

Zoe achieved namely zero of five stars in the safety test that sets the standard for road safety among cars in Europe.

The electric Spring model from Dacia, the Romanian car brand owned by Renault, received only one star.

“Renault was once synonymous with safety, but these disappointing results for Zoe and Dacia Spring show that safety has been weakened in the group’s transition to electric cars,” said Euro NCAP Secretary General Michiel van Ratingen in a statement, Reuters reports.

Renault says in a statement that Zoe is a safe car, which meets all safety requirements. It adds that the standards are constantly changing and that they are becoming stricter and stricter. “Renault is constantly working to improve and comply with the rules,” the statement said.

Rarely one star

The Euro NCAP stars are not valid as a certification that cars are approved for use on the road, but the tests are often used by various car manufacturers in marketing campaigns.

Only three times before has Euro NCAP dropped to give any star to cars they have tested, since the partnership emerged in 1997.

Euro NCAP noted, among other things, that the airbags on the sides of the car were worse than previous versions, but also added that the Renault Laguna was the first car to receive five stars in 2001.

From January to October, Zoe was the third best-selling electric car in Europe, behind the Tesla Model 3 at the top, followed by the Volkswagen ID.3.

Better in 2013

It has temporarily not been as dark for Zoe before.

A press release called “Hero to Zero” from the British insurance group Thatcham Research states that Zoe received five stars back in 2013.

“It is a shame to see Renault threaten the safety that was built from the start,” said Matthew Avery, Thatchams, head of research strategy and board member of Euro NCAP, reports Reuters.

Eleven cars were tested in Euro NCAP’s last test round for 2021. A number of vehicles received five stars, including the BMW iX, Mercedes-Benz EQS, Nissan Qashqai and Volkswagen Caddy.

Lesson whole Zoe tests her.
