Slack complains to Microsoft about the European Commission

Demand for chat, audio and video calling, and other team-enabled communication services has risen sharply with the advent of the covid-19 pandemic and the increase in work from home. Teams is fighting for the favor of customers with Slack and other programs, such as Zoom.

According to Slack, Microsoft is forcing Office users to install Teams, blocking its removal and hiding its real costs from corporate customers. This harms competing operators. Slack wants Microsoft to sell Microsoft Teams separately and at a fair price.

Although both companies come from the United States, Slack decided to file a complaint in Europe. She justifies this by saying that the EC has proven in the past that it measures everyone by the same meter and is capable of creative solutions.

The Commission has previously fined Microsoft € 2.2 billion (CZK 58 billion) for unfair practices – including linking Internet Explorer and Windows. The EC acknowledged receipt of the complaint from Slack and stated that it would assess it according to its standard procedures.
