However, the Slovak skier finished second and scored 80 points. The overall leader of the overall evaluation, Mikaela Shiffrin, took fifth place and scored 45 points. The lead over the race at Kronplatz was at the level of 52 points, it was reduced to only 17. If Vlhová won, she would get 100 points, which would be 3 points ahead of Shiffrin.

Despite the fact that Vlhová did not get to the overall first place before the Olympic break, she managed to reduce Shiffrin’s lead to a negligible value. The difference in the points awarded for the first and second place is 20, so Shiffrinová and Vlhová share literally only one podium in the overall evaluation.

BETTER THAN EXPECTED

The native of Liptov and the whole team repeated before the season that they are not looking at the big globe and the goal is the Olympics. During the year, however, they began to express that they would look at the big globe and fight for it if they were in the game after the Olympics. It is already clear that they are and will be in the game and probably much more than they expected.

In addition, Vlhová managed to secure a small globe for slalom in advance, winning up to five of the seven races of the most spinning discipline and finishing second twice. It was in the slalom that she gained the largest portion of points. Her position in the overall standings is all the more admirable because she only took part in one speed weekend.

They can get another 500 for technical disciplines and 700 points for speed. However, a downhill and super-G are on the agenda next weekend. After the Olympics, there will be both 500 and 500 points in the game.

DECIDES BETWEEN SHIFFRIN AND VLHOV

Although there are still many events left until the end of the season, we can already say that in the fight for the big globe, a decision will be made between Shiffrin and Vlhova if nothing very unexpected happens.

A few races ago, we would rank third overall among the favorites Sofiu Goggiovú, but the speed specialist did not get the opening month of the year. At first she did not finish the downhill in Zauchensee, then she took 19th place in the same super-G resort.

After moving to Cortina d’Ampezzo, she put in a good triumph in the downhill, where she scored 100 points. But the next day in the super-G, she fell and was injured. She is not currently fighting for a big globe, but for healing to the Olympics.

Shiffrin is currently losing 257 points. He will definitely miss the super-G and downhill during the next weekend in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. After the Olympics, there will be only two super-G and three descents, a total of 500 points, which the Italian would get if she won everything. In that case, she would be ahead of Shiffrin by 243 points, and it’s really unlikely that the American won’t get that many points in the other five technical disciplines.

Goggio also goes huge slalom, but she only gets a small number of points. Of the five in the season, the twelfth was the best.

The fourth in the overall ranking is Sara Hectorova, however, she collects points especially in the huge slalom, where she is clearly behind the gain of a small globe. Super-G and downhill do not drive and in slalom she scored only 175 points in 7 races. So it is also unlikely that he will fight for a big globe. He loses 344 points in the first place.

Piata je Federica Brignonenováwho loses 367 points to Shiffrin. Although she goes all but slalom, her results in the season are not so good and balanced that she can think of a big globe and the loss is too great.

The fight for the big globe thus promises a very close duel between Shiffrin and Vlhová. Both competitors will go after the Olympics in all disciplines to get as many points as possible. Each point can decide. Also the one who would get for the 30th place in the congress. We have earned a great drama that can culminate peacefully in the last discipline of the season.

However, all provided that both serve health and no injuries occur. We have seen in recent days how the whole situation can be easily changed by Sofia Goggio.

Where did they get the most points?

Shiffrinová – SL: 440, OS: 361, SG: 220, Z: 5

Vlhová – SL: 660, OS: 331, SG: 13, Z: 40

How many races did they go to?

Shiffrin – SL: 6/7, OS: 5/6, SG: 5/6, Z: 2/5, PAR: 0/1 – total: 18/25

Vlhova – SL: 7/7, OS: 6/6, SG: 1/6, Z: 1/5, PAR: 0/1 – total: 15/25

Shiffrin missed the slalom and giant slalom in Lienz for a positive coronavirus test.
