“Sit down while you can” – ORF star flees – world

Christian Wehrschütz actually wanted to stay in Kyiv to report on current developments. But the situation is too dangerous.

Christian Wehrschütz reported on Tuesday morning about a “total withdrawal movement” from Kyiv. The ORF correspondent, who said early in the morning that he wanted to continue reporting from Kyiv, says he has already packed his bags. In a short statement he explained on ORF radio Ö1 that his team had decided to leave the city despite an inner conflict.

Although he wants to continue reporting from Kyiv, the security concerns are apparently too great. No one knows when Russia’s major attack on the Ukrainian capital will take place, but friends of the federal army have apparently advised the ORF correspondent: “Get out while you can.”

WAR in Ukraine – all developments LIVE

Embassy evacuated

Not only Wehrschütz left the city. A humanitarian convoy is also leaving Kyiv heading south. The people living in the Austrian embassy have now also been evacuated. Only security and one employee are on site. So the embassy is still busy. Because this still fulfills two tasks: On the one hand, it has to help people who want to get out of the city and the country. According to Wehrschütz, there are still Austrians who are stuck in the Kyiv area and cannot get away. On the other hand, the embassy is also needed to distribute aid as soon as it arrives in Ukraine.

Wehrschütz himself wants to take a position west of Kyiv and continue reporting from there from the Ukraine. He announced this in the live broadcast.
