Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The government continues to support the state-owned pharmaceutical company, PT Bio Farma (Persero) to produce the CoronaVac vaccine, the Covid-19 vaccine from Sinovac Biotech Ltd. The production process is expected to start in November 2020.
In fact, to smooth out this production plan, Sinovoc has visited the Bio Farma factory which is located in Bandung, West Java.
This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan in the program Mata Najwa which was broadcast on Trans 7 on Wednesday (23/9/2020).
“Yes, we all exercise, Najwa, we don’t just accept it or just take it for granted. I was still meeting with Sinovac. Sinovac just came from Bio Farma in Bandung. And they’ve said they are ready to start producing them in November. “So hopefully their clinical trials will also be completed,” said Luhut.
Then why did Sinovac come all the way to Bandung for this visit? Director of Bio Farma Honesti Basyir said that currently the company and Sinovac were processing technology transfer. This technology transfer is needed so that Bio Farma can produce the same vaccine that Sinovac did.
“The meeting is in the context of the transfer technology process from Sinovac to Bio Farma,” Honesti told CNBC Indonesia, Thursday (25/09/2020).
For information, Bio Farma has received a commitment from Sinovac Biotech Ltd. for 210 million active ingredients / bulk Covid-19 vaccine, CoronaVac he found. So that for immunization needs, at least Indonesia has had 260 million doses of vaccine.
In the first phase, Indonesia will only receive 50 million bulk from this November to March 2021. This amount is expected to be spent until March 2021. Meanwhile, for April-December needs, 210 million doses of vaccine have been promised by the company to be distributed to Indonesia.
“From April to December 2021, we need Sinovac commitment of 210 million doses of vaccine. So we can secure 260 million because later 130 people will be programmed in which 1 person has 2 doses, 2 injections into the community, so 260 million for the community,” he said at the Commission.
