JAKARTA – Member of Commission IX DPR Kurniasih Mufidayati said she was shocked when she received information on the arrival of a corona vaccine candidate from a Chinese company, Sinovac Bitotech, to Indonesia. The reason is, the vaccine has not been discussed in detail by the government with Commission IX of the DPR.
The politician from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) said that on July 14, 2020, Commission IX of the DPR held an integrated meeting with the government and various stakeholders regarding the development of the corona vaccine.
During the meeting, what was clearly presented were the stages and planning of the domestically made vaccine which was later named “Merah Putih.” The Health Commission also supports this local vaccine.
“So, during the meeting, all the stages and plans for the vaccine process that were created from Indonesia have clearly been presented. Where we really support all members of Commission IX to support the total efforts of the government,” said Kurniasih at the Trijaya MNC Polemic event. “Waiting for the Covid-19 Vaccine” virtually, Saturday (15/8/2020).
Kurniasih said, the vaccine that the Indonesian nation produces itself is a matter of pride. That is why the DPR, in this case Commission IX, is very supportive of this effort, especially from the budget side.
“Because we are proud that we can have domestic products which hopefully will be more suitable for the Indonesian people, and we have even talked about the budget to support it,” he explained.
Kurniasih said, after discussing the local vaccine meeting, suddenly there was information about the arrival of a vaccine from abroad which is now being tested in clinical phase three. The vaccine is made by a Chinese company, Sinovac Biotech.
“It was after the discussion that information appeared on the arrival of vaccines from outside which are now in clinical trials,” he said.
In principle, Kurniasih continued, his party really understands that the government is trying to provide the best treatment to the Indonesian people. However, he said that during the meeting with the DPR, the only detailed discussions were about local vaccines, not cooperation with Chinese companies.

“But we from Commission IX are very concerned about vaccines that really meet the criteria. First, what we discussed at that time was very deep, until that night, our meeting discussion was Prof. Amin, well, we discussed it in detail. That’s why we were a little surprised when we discussed it. There are other vaccines that are presented in Indonesia but are not discussed and are not coordinated or discussed at Commission IX, “explained Kurniasih.
“Because after all, Commission IX will later become a counterweight, supervisor, then also in terms of budgeting we will definitely discuss it in Commission IX as well. Now this is what we still do, maybe after this recess is over, maybe on Tuesday we will start a meeting. and maybe this will be a priority agenda in Commission IX to discuss vaccines, which we must push so that there is a very adequate allocated budget, “he added.
