Mohamed El-Azab, president of the Egyptian Society for Cervical Endoscopy, revealed that a protocol of cooperation with the Health Care Authority was signed to provide comprehensive health insurance system services for examination and early detection of cervical tumors to more than 1.1 million women whose data were recorded in the system.

Al-Azab said, during the activities of the Egyptian Women’s Forum 2020, that 99% of cases of cervical tumors are due to HPV, and that 80% of women are susceptible to infection with the virus that causes cervical cancer.

He confirmed that 70% of women will go away from the disease and symptoms, while 30% will remain infected, and the disease progresses among them from the stage of abnormal cells to the limits of the different stages of cervical cancer.

Dr. Muhammad al-Azab added that 63% of women with cervical cancer die, and according to the World Health Organization, there are 1000 cases of cervical cancer annually, which cost the state one and a half billion pounds, if we assume that the cost of one case when treatment is 150 thousand pounds.

Bachelors: cervical cancer can be prevented by vaccination against HPV

Al-Azab added that the disease can be prevented by vaccination against the HPV virus, in addition to tracking the symptoms indicating the disease and continuing to do periodic tests.

The head of the Egyptian Society of Hysteroscopy added that vaccination against the HPV virus that causes cervical cancer is very important, and it is preferable to obtain it from the age of 10 years, and care must be taken to follow up on symptoms related to the disease such as the appearance of skin growths on the surface of the body or the fish’s eye.

He pointed out that after marriage, it is recommended to do a smear test for the disease in the cervical region every 3 years, for women from the age of 25 to 49 years, and every 5 years from the age of 50 to 65 years, explaining that women who have previously married should do the swab as well. To make sure not to be infected, the British Association for Cervical Endoscopy recommends that you have a regular examination.

And Dr. Mohamed Al-Azab added that the symptoms of cervical cancer are the frequent increase in vaginal secretions in women, or blood during the marital relationship, pain in the lower pelvis and disturbance in the menstrual cycle.

He continued: “If these symptoms appear, it is necessary to consult a specialist doctor and examine the endoscope and not the sonar, as sonar has no role in detecting the infection or not, in the presence of abnormal cells or cancerous tumors.”

He said that the disease can be contained and controlled within 7 to 10 years of infection, so that it is in the stage of abnormal cells, and is completely cured of it while ensuring the continuation of childbearing, and he called on women to take care of the uterine area to ensure that they are not infected.

He added that the tests conducted are useful in early detection of the disease, and provide full protection for women from losing the maternal dream that results from cervical cancer.
