Singapore Covid Record in 10 Months Due to Karaoke Cluster

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Singapore daily case record Covid-19 the most in the last ten months on Wednesday (13/7) due to the emergence of karaoke clusters.

Singapore’s Ministry of Health reported 60 new Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours to Wednesday. Of the total cases, 41 of them are related to the cluster at the KTV karaoke place.

With this addition on Wednesday, the KTV cluster has contributed 53 cases, up from only 12 on Tuesday (12/7).

Singapore itself has not opened KTV because of the high potential for Covid-19 transmission in places that sell food and drinks.

Police also arrested 20 women on Wednesday for illegal activities on KTV. Among the 20 people were citizens of South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

Prior to this arrest, Singapore’s Minister of Health, Ong Ye Kung, had said that the police could take action against violators of the rules.

“All places that provide services, gambling, and everything that causes close contact, is never allowed. So when this all happens, it’s very upsetting,” he was quoted as saying. Reuters.

In all, 56 of the new cases came from transmission within Singapore. Meanwhile, the other four cases came from immigrants who were detected positive for Covid during the mandatory quarantine period.

Ong was disappointed by the addition of this case as Singapore is targeting a reduction in transmission in order to quickly launch the idea of ”coexistence with Covid-19.”

To achieve that target, Singapore is also intensifying its vaccination program. Singapore targets to have vaccinated two-thirds of its population by August 9.
