Arrow Incident Halts Archery Competition: Two Youths Injured at Pesta Sukan
SINGAPORE – A scheduled break at the Pesta sukan archery competition took a concerning turn on July 13 when an arrow accidentally struck two participants, necessitating outpatient treatment. The incident occurred at bukit Gombak Stadium, casting a shadow over the annual sporting event.
Preliminary investigations by Sport Singapore (SportSG) suggest a breach of safety protocols by a third participant, aged between 17 adn 20, who was reportedly loading a bow in the gallery. This action led to the accidental release of the arrow.
The two individuals who sustained injuries, also within the 17-20 age bracket, suffered minor cuts that did not require stitches. On-site paramedics provided immediate medical assistance, and both victims have since completed their outpatient treatment.
Despite existing safety measures, including pre-event briefings, the incident has prompted SportSG to review its protocols. A spokesperson confirmed that the competition was instantly halted following the accident, and all participants and team managers were re-briefed with an increased emphasis on safety adherence.
“Safety is of paramount concern to SportSG,” the spokesperson stated. “We are reviewing the incident and will assess if further measures are needed to enhance safety and safeguard the well-being of all participants.”
