Since June 1, 50,000 corona tests taken by GGD, a thousand positive NOW

A week after the GGD one national number opened for corona tests, nearly 60,000 appointments were made and nearly 50,000 corona tests were conducted. That is what Sjaak de Gouw, portfolio holder for Infectious Disease Control of GGD GHOR, added on Sunday evening On 1. About a thousand corona tests were found to be positive.

In total, 59,090 appointments were made last week and 49,228 tests were taken. The roughly ten thousand remaining tests will be taken on Monday, says De Gouw. Of the nearly fifty thousand tests, about 2%, or about a thousand tests, gave a positive result.

“When we tested in healthcare, about 17% of the tests were positive among residents and employees. Then we also tested the teachers and contact professions, after which that percentage dropped to 5%. We had already assumed that the number of positive testing now that the testing options have been further expanded, would be below 5%, and it shows “, says De Gouw.

Test capacity turned out to be sufficient

The GGD has calculated the maximum capacity of the telephone lines and tests on the basis of data from the RIVM on the number of people with a respiratory infection. “That was also sufficient for the number of tests that have been taken.”

Although the test capacity is evenly distributed across the country, the pressure at the test locations in one place was higher than in the other. For example, many people called Brabant and Limburg and relatively more tests were taken, De Gouw notes. “We do see differences in the country. But we don’t know if that’s because there are more respiratory infections in that area or more troubled people.”

“Tidal wave to people” tried to call phone number

The GGD’s national number, 0800-1202, was opened on 1 June. Anyone with corona-related complaints can make an appointment via the telephone number to be tested.

The first few days, a “tidal wave of people” tried to reach the phone number, De Gouw says. Although the exact number of callers is not known, after a week the number of unique callers stood at almost 90,000. A number of people have had to call several times for an appointment due to the pressure on the telephone lines.

It is striking that many people did not call the line to make an appointment, but to ask questions about the corona virus, says De Gouw. “People without complaints, people who wanted to go abroad, who had family visit,” he explains. “Even on Sunday, we still had 40% of people calling with something other than a test question.”
