Simon Hirsch returns to the Bundesliga with Friedrichshafen «VfB Friedrichshafen Volleyball

VfB Friedrichshafen will have another German national player in their own ranks in the coming season. Simon Hirsch is moving to the Häflern from Narbonne in France and has signed a one-year contract. The 29-year-old is looking for the challenge of winning titles on Lake Constance and is happy to have returned to the volleyball Bundesliga after eight years abroad.

In 2013 Simon Hirsch was still DVV Cup winner with Generali Haching. A year later he turned his back on Germany. Italy, Korea and finally France were on his list. But he always kept an eye on the Bundesliga. “Of course you look to Germany, especially to the big clubs like Friedrichshafen,” he says. “When the offer came from Lake Constance, it worked out really well. I’m looking forward to playing in the Bundesliga again. ”To fight for national titles and to be able to serve in the Champions League,“ I’m very excited, ”says Hirsch.

At the moment he is preparing for the Volleyball Nations League with the German national team. With him in the squad is Linus Weber, his predecessor as a diagonal attacker in Friedrichshafen. “Of course they talk about the new club,” admits the 29-year-old and laughs. “You don’t have to ask Linus any questions. He’ll tell by itself. ”Apparently only good things, because Simon Hirsch is looking forward to this task, as he says.

Simon Hirsch was born in Ulm and spent his sporting youth at VC Dresden and VCO Berlin. He has been part of the German men’s national team since 2014 and has asserted himself in various leagues. “We are very happy that Simon will be part of the team,” says Thilo Späth-Westerholt about Hirsch, for whom he only has other words of praise. “We are talking about the nominal main attacker of the German national team. Simon has proven in the strongest leagues in the world that he is right. “

For the new head coach Mark Lebedew, the reason for this is clear. “With his technical skills, he is a great asset for us,” says the Australian and is not only happy that “Simon is with VfB, but also that he is an asset to the entire Bundesliga with his vast experience.” Hirsch, the 2017 vice European champion comes to Lake Constance with great advance praise, but only after the European Championships at the end of September. “I even have three weeks off this year,” he says. For a professional volleyball player this is almost a luxury.

However, Simon Hirsch will be able to take a closer look at the Zeppelin CAT Hall A1. He will train with the national team in Friedrichshafen from May 19, before heading into the Nations League Bubble in Rimini, Italy, for 30 days. “I’m really looking forward to seeing the new hall. I only know the ZF Arena, ”he says. “And then the new season will start soon. Hopefully with fans again. “
