An experimental solution was introduced in Lower Silesia – a train on demand. The idea turned out to be successful, because it was decided that trains would also stop at the passenger’s sign at other stations. Material of the magazine “Polska i Świat”.

There are only two such railway stops in the country where the passenger decides whether the train is to stop. Koleje Dolnośląskie has completed tests of on-demand stops near Legnica and Świdnica.

– Four percent were cases in which the train stopped for various reasons, but no one got on or off, so we’re talking about a really marginal scale – informs Bartłomiej Rodak from Koleje Dolnośląskie. The carrier assured that no one complained that the driver missed a passenger who wanted to board the train.

The railway wants to increase the number of stations on demand – the Lower Silesian carrier has already selected 19 platforms, but it does not reveal which stations are meant. Now he is asking the railway workers for permission. PKP PLK are for stops on request, but also have a request. – The condition is that if there is more than one carrier on the railway line, both carriers must agree that the stop should be a stop on request – says Mirosław Siemieniec from PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe.

Stops on demand are made so that trains do not stop unnecessarily – when nobody wants to get on and off. Stopping a squad and then speeding up consumes a lot of energy and money. – This is a solution for smaller stops, where there are a few or a dozen passengers a day, and not at the main station or agglomeration, where the effect may occur that no one has waved and everyone will be collectively surprised that the train has gone further – believes the president of the Prokolej Foundation, Dr. Jakub Majewski.
