Silence Hamas, Israeli Foreign Minister Explains Gaza Development Plan

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Israel disclose various development plans in Gaza Strip, Palestine, as an effort to silence the Hamas group so that it does not continue to act.

Israel’s Foreign Minister, Yair Lapid, stated that the development plan covers the fields of infrastructure to jobs.

“In return, Hamas will agree on a long-term peace,” Lapid said, as quoted by the Daily Mail AFP, Sunday (12/9).

With those conditions, Lapid stated that it wanted to show the people of Gaza, Hamas’ violence against Israel that left them “living in poverty, deprivation, violence, high unemployment, and without hope.”

Lapid then revealed that in the early stages of development, Israel would place more emphasis on improving infrastructure in the Gaza Strip.

“The electricity system will be repaired, gas will be connected, and a water purification system will be built, significant development of the health system, and rebuilding of housing and transportation infrastructure will also be carried out,” said Lapid.

Lapid also emphasized that, “Any violation by Hamas will immediately stop or hinder this process.”

However, if the initial stages go well, Israel will build an artificial island on its coast. The artificial island will facilitate the construction of ports and “transport routes” between Gaza and the West Bank.

Lapid explained that Israel had contacted various countries regarding this development plan. According to him, this plan would not have developed without the help of Egypt.

He revealed that Israel had presented the plan to “partners in the Arab region” as well as the United States, Russia and the European Union.

“There is still a lot to be done. We are still working on a plan, but if this plan is successful and gets broad support, we will submit it to the government to be formalized,” said Lapid.

Shortly after Lapid announced this plan, violence broke out again in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army said it intercepted a rocket launched from Gaza towards Israel.

In the early hours of Monday (13/9), Israel fought back. They deployed a number of fighter jets to attack four Hamas military posts and a tunnel in the Palestinian territories. However, there were no casualties in this attack.
