Signal App – No, you didn’t win an iPhone! – News

The sudden success of Signal messaging whets the appetites of crooks. In recent days, a gross phishing attempt has been running on the application, with an iPhone 12 Pro to pocket. Do not fall into the trap !

In recent weeks, following the controversy over WhatsApp’s privacy policy, hundreds of thousands of users have flocked to the Signal messaging app. Renowned for its demand for secure exchanges, it has welcomed consumers shocked by the opacity of WhatsApp’s information exchange with Facebook, its parent company, with open arms. Obviously, Signal has also welcomed crooks.

In recent days, a phishing attempt has been running on the application. Camouflaged in a message claiming to be from Amazon, this scam informs the user that the subscription to their Amazon Prime loyalty account has been “Rewarded” and that an iPhone 12 Pro is reserved for it. Obviously, to get it, you have to click on an Internet link that immediately puts you on the trail of phishing: the address, which has no connection with Amazon (kiwimatcha.icu/M7kqq in our example) is not even concealed. Nor does the number of the sender, whose code +84 seems to indicate a scam from Vietnam. The link points to an Internet page in the colors of Amazon, which finally informs us that we have been selected for an investigation, following which we “May” receive a “Fantastic price”. The iPhone 12 Pro is no longer acquired, too bad… And we must act quickly: the fooled user has less than 1 min 30 to participate! On this page, we finally read that this survey “Aims to improve the service for users” and that 10 users will win an iPhone 12 Pro.

“Amazon’s identity is regularly usurped by crooks for phishing attempts by phone, email or SMS. On Signal, this is a first! We will immediately list this scam among the dozens of others ”, explains an Amazon spokesperson, who recalls that a dedicated page (1) on his site makes it possible to report these scams and to recognize communications actually coming from Amazon.

Phishing attempts and other scams of all kinds, What to choose regularly denounces it: it appears every day according to the news. The health crisis has not escaped the phenomenon. Be careful !

A notification from the Signal application warns of the arrival of a message from an unknown number promising an iPhone 12 Pro to the lucky one.
