Dodgers’ Snell Seeks Another Kershaw Jersey, Reflecting pitcher’s Potential Farewell Season
LOS ANGELES – As clayton Kershaw navigates what many believe will be his final major league season, even opposing players are seeking a piece of his legacy. dodgers pitcher Blake Snell revealed a desire to add to his collection of Kershaw memorabilia, specifically another personalized jersey.
“I might get me another one,” Snell said, reflecting on the impact of Kershaw’s career.
Snell, a 23-year-old former first-round pick himself, arrived in the major leagues with a sense of uncertainty about longevity. This prompted him to proactively collect personalized jerseys, and he already possesses two framed Kershaw jerseys displayed prominently in his office alongside other sports memorabilia. The end of his first year with the Dodgers has him considering expanding his collection.
Snell’s comments come amidst growing sentiment that this season marks the end of an era for the Dodgers’ longtime ace. Manager Dave Roberts has observed a shift in Kershaw’s demeanor, noting a newfound gratitude and reflectiveness. Roberts first noticed this during the All-Star Game, where Kershaw addressed his National League teammates, emphasizing the importance of honoring those who helped them reach that stage. He also pointed to Kershaw’s emotional reaction after achieving his 3,000th career strikeout on July 2nd,when he rushed to acknowledge the fans.
“The edges aren’t as hard anymore,” Roberts explained. ”he knows he’s had a tremendous career, and I think that now he’s making a point. he’s being intentional about taking in every moment.”
Kershaw himself acknowledged the significance of milestones like his 3,000th strikeout – a feat accomplished by only 19 other pitchers – and made a conscious effort to savor the experience at the All-Star Game. The presence of his wife, Ellen, and their four children at every start this season, even with the challenges of the school year, has added to the emotional weight of the stretch run.
However, Kershaw maintains his competitive drive, recognizing that dwelling on past success can diminish his performance. “The minute you savor, the minute you think about success, you’re content,” he said. “but that also means he can’t truly enjoy the end.”
He added, “Being healthy, being able to compete and pitch well, being on a great team — that’s all you can ask for. If you do all of the other stuff, you become content or satisfied or whatever it is. Then it’s all downhill.”
Snell’s desire for another Kershaw jersey underscores the respect the pitcher commands throughout the league, even from those currently competing against him. It’s a testament to Kershaw’s impact, both on and off the field,as he potentially approaches the final chapters of his remarkable career.
