Former director of De Surinaamsche Bank (DSB) Sigmund Proeve will be the new governor of the Central Bank of Suriname (CBvS). Yesterday, Suriname Herald reported that Karel Eckhorst was tipped as a new governor. But it is now known that Eckhorst is not interested in the position of governor.
According to sources, President Desi Bouterse has decided to appoint Proeve as governor of the CBvS. However, this has not yet been confirmed by the authorities.
In the meantime, the Surinamese Bankers’ Association has indicated that it will not settle for Proeve as the successor to Robert van Trikt. The banking association will issue a statement tomorrow.
