Built by Volkswagen in the USA and Canada, the Electrify America charging network will continue to be deployed with the financial and technical support of Siemens. The equipment manufacturer will invest 450 million dollars (430 million euros).

Born as a punishment for Volkswagen following the Dieselgate affair, the Electrify America fast charging network is now a major component of the German group’s electrification in North America. Even if the network does not have the right to communicate directly on its affiliation with Volkswagen (no Volkswagen or Volkswagen Group logo on the stations for example).

It has become one of the most developed networks, apart from that of Tesla. It currently has 758 stations (+76 opening in the coming weeks). This represents a total of 3,010 fast chargers up to 350 kW (soon to be 3,500 chargers). However, the average remains quite low with about 4 chargers per station on average. The network is powered solely by renewable energy. It is of course not over and Volkswagen intends to continue to invest beyond the 2 billion dollars initially promised.

Electrify America therefore sees the arrival of a new major investor with Siemens. The German equipment manufacturer becomes the first outside investor. His basic bet is quite substantial with 450 million dollars (430 million euros). Siemens also wins a seat on the board of directors of the company which is currently not listed on the stock exchange.

Late last year, Electrify America announced plans to expand its network to 1,800 stations and 10,000 chargers by the end of 2026. In the United States and Canada.
