SIC Notícias | Covid-19. Costa announces that Portugal received tranche of 3 thousand M € of European funds

This Tuesday Portugal received a tranche of 3 billion euros of European funds, under the SURE program, to help various sectors in the face of the crisis caused by the pandemic of the new coronavirus, announced the Prime Minister.

“We received today the first tranche of the loan granted to #Portugal under SURE, a European program that supports Member States in their effort to protect workers and companies. I strongly welcome the transfer of these 3000 million euros in European funds”, wrote António Costa in a message published today on the social network Twitter.

“These European funds will finance measures such as the ‘layoff’, support for self-employed workers, support for the country and the @SNS Portugal workers’ bonus”, underlined Costa.

According to the prime minister, “#SURE reflects the solidarity of #UE and its prompt response to the crisis”, which allows “to continue to protect the jobs and workers most affected”.

“We remain determined in the fight against the pandemic and in mitigating its social and economic effects”, said António Costa.

The finance minister, João Leão, had signed on October 27 the loan contract for the SURE program, to support employment, in the amount of 5.9 billion euros.

On the occasion, the Ministry of Finance said that this is “the European instrument of temporary support to mitigate the risks of unemployment in an emergency situation”, which will “allow the financing of measures to support the maintenance of employment contracts and other expenditure related to health at work, in response to the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic “.

On October 15, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that Portugal would “receive” 5.9 billion euros under the European SURE program “soon”.
