Short videos from YouTube are viewed 1.5 billion times a month | NOW

YouTube Shorts, the competitor of TikTok, are viewed monthly by 1.5 billion logged in users. That is what the video service says on Wednesday TechCrunch† If that number is correct, YouTube has caught up with its competitor.

TikTok’s most recent figures are from September last year. At that time, the app claimed to have a billion monthly users. The expectation was that TikTok would tap the 1.5 billion sometime this year. Whether that has already happened is unknown.

According to YouTube, the Shorts ensure that longer videos are also viewed more. The company says channels that upload both video formats get more subscribers and people watch their videos for longer.

There is no separate YouTube app for the short videos. Instead, there is a separate tab where people can watch the videos. Just like on TikTok, people can always swipe up to go to the next video.

TikTok was known for its short videos for a long time, but has now stretched the maximum playing time to ten minutes. With this, the app hopes to keep people longer.
