Mr. Maurus counts as one of the leading minds when it comes to the MPU and the preparation for it. He has been training consultants personally for many years and is still working on the preparation himself. In fact, he looks after between 30 and 40 clients each year. So he knows exactly what he’s talking about and what it’s about.
Question: How do you explain the fact that more and more young people have to go to the MPU?
Maurus: It hasn’t just been the case today, it has actually been going on for many years. A rising trend can be clearly seen here. In fact, there are several reasons for this. One of them is e.g. For example, when the party drug ecstasy was introduced in the 1990s, it started. It soon became “good form” at the relevant events to consume these substances. After all, this drug was very easy to come by and affordable as well. The effect sets in quickly and lasts a long time. All of the disadvantages of being intoxicated by alcohol are eliminated. And that hasn’t changed until today.
Question: Not everyone drives a vehicle afterwards, and many do not yet have a driver’s license. How does this affect the MPU?
Maurus: That’s right, not everyone who consumes also drives a vehicle afterwards. He doesn’t have to do that to get an MPU imposed. The possession of narcotics can be enough for the authorities to require an MPU.
Question: But for a person who doesn’t even have a driver’s license, isn’t that obsolete?
Maurus: For the moment, yes, but not later. If this person wants to acquire his driver’s license at some point, the authorities will impose the MPU on him as a condition. A violation of the Narcotics Act always affects the driver’s license.
Question: But in such cases the MPU is still an easy one?
Maurus: The MPU is never easy, not even in cases in which the person concerned has not yet had a driver’s license. To make matters worse, proof of abstinence has to be provided, even if the violation was a few years ago.
Question: Do you see in the foreseeable future that this will change again?
Maurus: Good question, but the statistics predict a clear trend, it will continue like this.
Question: How do you deal with this as an MPU preparer?
Maurus: We have no choice but to adjust to it. We are currently offering 171
Locations in Germany for the MPU preparation. It is our aim to set up further advice centers. We receive inquiries from those affected almost every day who ask us for help.
Question: Is the preparation of the MPU Academy Augsburg http://mpuakademie.de better than other consultants?
Maurus: I don’t know how other consultants work, so I can’t comment on that. I also don’t know if we are better than others. I just know our system, our methodology is accepted and is being accepted.
